A Speaker Emerges

Since this is my first of what will be many blog entries; I figured I should open by sharing another "first experience" with you. On this past Saturday, I had the honor of speaking to a large group of kids as part of the LeMoyne-Owen Hank Aaron Celebrity Sports Weekend. At first I wasn't that nervous because I figured I was used to large crowds and this should be a "slam dunk" for lack of better words! In front of a group of what had to be about 250-300 kids; I watched as speaker after speaker addressed the group with heart touching sentiments... Just before I was to speak, Elliot Perry; who is someone that I admire for everything that he has done to give back to this city and make an impact in the lives of children, got up and gave a tear-jerker of a speech! I 'm sitting there thinking "How in the world do I follow that up"! That's when I realized that it probably wasn't going to be as easy as I thought it would! Overall, I think I did okay, I hope that I said something that the kids can take with them to help them make positive decisions in their lives. It was a first for me, and I am thankful to be given such an opportunity! Thanks again to Roger Brown, with the Office of Institutional Development at LOC! I enjoyed being a part of this weekends' events!

My sons and I met you today at the open practice as you signed our basketball. Let me say how great it was to hear you say to us, "thank you for coming". Although you were the only one to say that, I truly feel that this is the sentiment of the team.
I've watched you since you came, and I enjoy your game. I pray that this would be your best year with many more to come.

God Bless,
Pastor Paul Reed

TK, it was great seeing you at the open practice today! I feel like you are going to be such an awesome contributor to the Grizz this year, and you are certainly one of my favorite players. Everytime you take the court, I feel confident something good is going to happen. I haven't gotten to meet you yet, but I hope to in the future! Good luck on Monday and keep the blogs rolling.
